The public schools in Columbia are run by the Howard
County Public School System, which has ranked No. 1
in the state of Maryland for eight of the past 10 years.
Within Columbia, there are 14 elementary schools, 4
middle schools and 5 high schools. Columbia’s
students may also attend schools in Clarksville, Elkridge
and Ellicott City depending on where the boundary lines
are drawn. In many cases, children can walk to and from
their schools using Columbia’s pathway system.
