The Board of Directors is the final authority on all matters regarding the Columbia Association. The Board reviews CA policy and budget matters,
develops strategic initiatives, addresses community
issues, and appoints the CA president, who oversees a team of approximately 1300 professionals who carry out the
day-to-day operations. The Columbia Association provides a variety of amenities, including 40 recreational and community facilities, 3,400
acres of permanent open space, 93 miles of pathways, more than 170 tot lots and several parks.
Howard County Government provides other services, including trash collection, local highway maintenance, snow removal, police and fire protection, libraries and the public schools..
As it develops its policies and priorities,
the CA Board solicits advice from residents
and resident advisory committees. The advisory
committees, which are appointed by the Board with specific charges,
range from ad hoc groups to longer-term committees, such as
the Financial Management Committee or the Architectural
Resource Committee. Residents are encouraged to attend Board meetings to express their opinions during
Resident Speakout.
The meetings are held at CA Headquarters, 10221
Wincopin Circle. Meeting notices and agendas are
posted in advance at all CA facilities and on
this site.
Through an ongoing Strategic Planning Process the Board and the Columbia Association
senior professional team work together to systematically identify and
address those issues that are most important to
the community, and its continuing well-being. If you would like to be involved, please contact the CA Board or members of your village
board with your concerns.
ON THE HORIZON
Because the Columbia Association is a corporation, albeit a nonprofit one with a community service mission, the CA Board of Directors has all of the legal responsibilities required of members of any corporate board. In recent years, the CA Board has included improving the Governance as one of the issues to be addressed in its Strategic Plan. The Board has also commissioned a number of task forces on governance and evaluated a number of recommendations. For a complete history of this process click on Reports.
