Fitness programs for mature adults:

Below are just some of the program and classes CA offers for mature adults for both CA members and Non- Members. For more information on these classes and a complete listing of program offerings, please click here

Women, Weights and Osteoporosis:
Offered at Columbia Athletic Club, in six-week sessions, this class will teach you how to use free weights and how to incorporate them into your strength-training program. This class is free for CA Package Plan Plus Members, $45 for CA Package Plan/Individual Facility Members, $65 for CA Residents and $75 for Non- Members. Practical Strength and Balance for Seniors:
Held at Supreme Sports Club, once a week for 8-weeks, this class will train seniors to be more confident and strong in activities of daily life. By training balance, reaction time, and postural strength, seniors will re- train their muscles to react to uneven surfaces, recover from trips and slips and see improved posture and overall fitness. The class will also work on stretching and range of motion activities that benefit joint fitness and muscle function. This class is for those who feel the need to improve their balance and posture and those wishing to improve their strength and range of motion prior to increasing their levels of activity. A minimum number of 10 participants is required. The next session begins Monday, June 4 at 8am. The cost is $84 for CA Package Plan Plus Members, $96 for CA Package Plan/Individual Facility Members, $120 for CA Residents and $144 for Non-Members. Arthritis Program:
Held at Columbia Athletic Club, on Mondays from 11:45am-12:40pm in May 2012, and 12:15-1:10pm from June through August 2012, this class will help increase your mobility and function and decrease pain and stiffness. This class is free to all CA Members and $9 per class for CA Residents and Non-Members.

New! Cypher Kinetics:
Join this fun and revolutionary new exercise program that utilizes circular motion and "protective" fitness to improve balance, flexibility and coordination while learning a few self-defense techniques. This class is offered year round in 4-week sessions at Columbia Gym. An Open House is offered the first Saturday of each month from 8-9am. The cost is $40 for CA Package Plan Plus Members, $50 for CA Package Plan/Individual Facility Members, $60 for CA Residents, and $75 for Non-Members. Columbia Art Center:
Columbia Art Center is open to everyone and offers a wide variety of art classes, workshops, exhibitions, field trips and more. An example of a great program for mature adults is the Off the Beaten Path Gallery Tour Series. Have fun touring different local galleries and artists' studios in the comfort of a driven van. Each month features a different trip, with lunch on your own at a selected fashionable restaurant. Each tour departs from Columbia Art Center promptly at 10am and returns by 3:30pm. Get Involved with the Senior Advisory Committee!
CA has a Senior Advisory Committee with the goal to advise CA on the needs, interest and concerns of Columbia's mature adult residents. The monthly committee meetings are open to the public and are held at rotating locations throughout Columbia. Senior Events Shuttle
Sponsored by the Senior Advisory Committee, the Senior Events Shuttle offers free curb-to-curb evening and weekend transportation shuttle to cultural events throughout Howard County for groups of 4 or more, ages 60+. To request a ride, please call 410-715-3087 one week prior to the event and leave a message.

Volunteer Center Serving Howard County
Are you interested in making a difference in our community? The Volunteer Center Serving Howard County connects individuals, youth, families, groups and businesses with volunteer opportunities, ranging from one-time events to ongoing programs. Columbia Community Exchange:
Howard County's Time Banking program, the Columbia Community Exchange (CCE), is a community-based Time Banking program offered by the Columbia Association to provide an opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors through the mutual exchange of everyday services. Membership is free and the concept is simple: spend an hour doing something for a fellow member and earn a Time Dollar. Then you have a Time Dollar to buy an hour of another member's time or service.

Columbia Association Golf:
With two great courses to choose from, Hobbit's Glen and Fairway Hills Golf Clubs, mature adults have access to lessons, daily play, leagues and more! Hobbit's Glen is a private, member only club, but does offer special daily play deals. Additionally, Hobbit's offers two membership options, a full annual membership and a weekday annual membership. For more information on membership specials, please contact Membership Service Center at 410-715-3184.

Fairway Hills is open to the public for daily play, but also offers a full annual membership and a weekday annual membership.
